● 24-Hour Manned Security: Our premises are secured with on-site staff ensuring the safety of all guests.
● Armed Response: We have armed security in place to respond swiftly to any emergencies.
● CCTV Surveillance: Our property is under constant video surveillance to monitor the surroundings. (Coming Soon)
● Night Watchmen: Dedicated staff are on duty throughout the night to ensure security.
● Certified Fire Safety: Our premises are equipped with annually certified fire alarms and fire equipment, ensuring maximum safety.
● Police & Medical Access:
○ Police Station: Only 7 minutes away for rapid emergency response.
○ Hospitals: Two major hospitals within 15–18 minutes for any medical needs.
○ Pharmacy: Located just 5 minutes away for quick access to essential medications.
Note: Visitors are only allowed on the premises by appointment to ensure the safety and privacy of all guests.
Load Shedding & Water
We understand how important comfort is, and we're equipped to handle power interruptions with ease. Our state-of-the-art solar backup system ensures smooth operations during power cuts:
● Backup Power: The facility is integrated with a PV design that converts to backup power during load shedding, using a containerized 1200 kWh battery system.
● Solar Farm: Our solar-powered system can run for a minimum of 15 years, ensuring a continuous power supply, even during extended power outages.
● Water Supply: Our borehole water system ensures reliable access to clean water.
Medical Policies
We abide by all South African and international medical regulations to ensure the health and safety of our guests.
● Medication: All guests are required to bring medication in specified containers, which will be administered by medical staff at the designated times (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or bedtime). Campers are not allowed to keep medication in their rooms.
● Health Center: *coming soon* Our health center is staffed with at least two highly qualified medical professionals: Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, or Doctors who are on-call 24/7.
● Mental Health: We also provide a licensed professional counselor to assist with mental health support, should the need arise.
● COVID-19: As per the latest guidelines, passengers entering South Africa are no longer required to present proof of a COVID-19 vaccination. However, we suggest all guests bring a negative PCR test. We also update our policies based on any changes to travel regulations.
Behavioral Policies
At Camp Journey & connecting branches, we aim to create a nurturing environment where every guest feels safe and respected.
● Bullying Prevention: We train our staff to recognize and handle any conflicts or bullying. Incidents are addressed immediately, with parents contacted for both the victim and the individual involved in bullying.
● Homesickness Support: Our coaches/counselors are trained to comfort and support homesick campers. If the issue persists, we will collaborate with parents to find the best solution.
● Safety Protocols:
○ Swim Test: Upon arrival, all campers take a swim test and are assigned a band based on their swimming ability: Blue (strong swimmer), Orange (weak swimmer), Yellow (non-swimmer). Non-swimmers are required to wear life jackets at all times in the water.
○ Life Jackets: Life jackets are mandatory for Yellow Bands
Cancellation & Modification Policy
We understand that plans may change. Our cancellation policy is designed to offer flexibility while also considering the operational needs of our retreat:
● Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made at least 30 days before the scheduled arrival will receive a 75% refund. Cancellations made after this period will incur a 35% cancellation fee.
● Modifications: Should you need to modify your booking, we allow changes based on availability, provided we receive notice 12 days or sooner in advance.
● No-Show: If you fail to show up without prior notice, a 30% no-show fee will be charged.
